Hopi Ear Candling

Hopi ear candles are named after the Native American tribe who first introduced this gentle therapy to the West. The Hopi nation is renowned for their extensive knowledge of healing and their spiritual lifestyle. The translation of the word Hopi means "peaceful ones".
Ear candles are used widely throughout North America and Asia and although the current treatment has come to us from the Hopi tribe, the use of ear candles to treat ear problems has been known for centuries, having been used by the Egyptians, Romans and Greeks.
Traditionally ear candles were used to cleanse the aura and to drive out negative energies

THE CANDLE

The candle is a thin, hollow linen tube. Each candle is handmade to a traditional recipe and incorporates honey, sage, St John's wort and camomile.

Ear candling is not suitable for people who have a perforated eardrum, grommets, acute infection or inflammation of the ear or surrounding areas. I am currently attempting to source a candle which doesn't contain any animal products and is therefore suitable for Vegans. Look out for more information on this soon.

THE TREATMENT
You will lie on your side, in a comfortable position, with your head supported by a pillow. The candle is placed in the outer ear and ignited. The candle is held at all times while it is burning down and you will be aware of a gentle warmth and experience a pleasant crackling sound. The warm air softens any debris and excess wax in the ear which may be released from the ear naturally over a few days following the treatment. The movement of the flame creates a vibration of air that generates a massage-like effect on the eardrum. Administering gentle heat locally stimulates the peripheral blood circulation, lymphatic and immune systems. Once the candle has burnt down to a marked level it is removed and extinguished. The process is then repeated on the other ear. Each candle takes between 8 and 12 minutes to burn down.

Following the candling a neck and face massage is carried out. This enhances the actions of the ear candles. It can also help to drain the sinuses, eliminate toxins and help with lymphatic drainage.

The whole candling experience is so wonderfully relaxing and soothing that many people drift off to sleep.

AFTER A TREATMENT
You will be advised to lie quietly for a few minutes. Most people notice a 'lightness' in the ear and head areas. The candle contents will be examined and if there is a long-standing problem the necessity of further treatments will be discussed.
